Whitby, with its old cobbled streets and sandy blue flag beach, is
set among fine stretches of coast with spectacular cliffs and bays.
The world famous 199 steps lead down from the Abbey to the old town
where you will find an array of unique shops offering local crafts,
Whitby Jet jewellery, maritime memorabilia and antiques.
A selection of diverse attractions includes the Captain Cook Memorial
Museum, Victorian Jet Works and
Whitby Museum with its collections of geology, jet carving, birdlife,
bygones, costumes and clocks.
Whitby
also offers a diverse range of culinary treats from award winning
seafood restaurants to famous Fish and Chips and
Old World
inns.
Further afield, the villages of the
Esk Valley offer a wide array of attractions including the steam
railway in Grosmont and the village of Goathland which doubles for the
village
of
Aidensfield in the world famous TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Of the many
coastal villages, perennial favourites are Staithes and Robin Hood’s
Bay whose ambience and charm has not diminished over the many hundreds
of years of their existence. |
